After sifting through the usual panic button posts online yesterday, I did my due diligence and read through the bill and the overall implications and… to be transparent… to my surprise, the freakout and shock was justified.
When I first heard about this bill and read through the initial proposals months ago, I thought it was just going to be providing Israel with access to U.S. military intelligence in a shared dashboard. When Netanyahu said months ago that it was time for USA and Israel to “move from aid recipient to partner” I thought it was going to result in a pre-mid-terms renewal of aid commitment that would be another decade of funding.
I did not expect that it would be a full incorporation of Israeli Technology into U.S. weapons production.
I also did not anticipate the par that says (paraphrased)… no matter what Israel does in terms of future humanitarian war crimes and genocidal actions, the U.S. will not stop partnering with Israel.
What’s truly unprecedented about this (and I was just talking with Brenna Perez about this yesterday) is that this type of cooperation would be a stronger alliance than we currently have ever had with NATO or any other U.S. partnership.
More to come on this as it goes through the Senate.
